Responsible Gaming
GoalXG is an information service. We don't take bets and we don't hold your money. But we know what our data gets used for, and that comes with a responsibility: to be honest about the risks, and to make it easy to find help.
If gambling has stopped being fun, help is available — free, confidential, and around the clock.
Gambling Therapy offers free online support worldwide in multiple languages. Your national health service or a local problem-gambling organization can also point you to support near you.
What we will and won't tell you
We think being straight with you is responsible gaming, so here is the part most of this industry leaves out:
A high hit rate is not the same as making money. If we're right 86% of the time on a pick at very short odds, and you stake the same amount on it ten times, the winnings from your eight or nine winners can still be smaller than the losses from the one or two you don't win. You can end up down while following picks that were mostly right. Always look at the price, not just the percentage.
No model is a sure thing. When we say we're 81% confident, we expect to be wrong about one time in five. That isn't a flaw — that's what 81% means. We publish every pick we've ever made, including the ones we got wrong, so you can judge us on the whole record rather than the highlights.
Nobody can promise you profit. Anyone who does is lying to you. That includes us.
Responsible gaming tips
Sports betting can be an enjoyable form of casual entertainment. When betting responsibly, bettors know their limits and are able to stop when they choose.
- Treat betting as entertainment, not income. It is a thing you spend money on, like a concert ticket — not a way to make money.
- Set a budget and stick to it. Decide on an amount you are entirely comfortable losing, with no impact on your financial wellbeing. That's your limit.
- Never chase losses. Trying to win back what you've lost is the single most common way this goes wrong. Accept losses as the cost of the entertainment.
- Understand the bet before you place it. If you don't know exactly what has to happen for it to win, don't place it.
- Only bet with your own money. Never borrowed funds, never credit.
- Keep it balanced. Make sure betting is one of many things you do, not the main one.
- Don't bet when you've been drinking or aren't fully sober.
- Don't bet in a highly emotional state. Stressed? Upset? Anxious? Low? If the answer is yes, this is not the time.
- Set a time limit. When people give too much of their time to betting, it can become compulsive.
- Learn the warning signs so you can spot them in yourself or someone else, and get support early.
Signs of a gambling problem
If you, a friend, or a loved one is showing any of the following, it's worth talking to someone:
- Chasing losses. Placing bigger or more frequent bets to win back what was lost.
- Being unable to stop. Trying to cut back or quit, and not managing it.
- Betting more, more often. A rising frequency or stake size.
- Borrowing money or using credit to fund betting.
- Neglecting responsibilities — work, school, family — in order to bet.
- Hiding or lying about it. Concealing how much you're betting, or how much you've lost, often out of shame.
None of these make you a bad person. They're symptoms, they're common, and they're treatable. Reaching out early makes it easier.
